Stuff happens, and that's fine
Kanon Foundry skipped the optical corrections on Hedvig Letters Sans, on purpose. Those are the tiny adjustments that fool the eye into seeing shapes as balanced and aligned when strictly they are not, and most typefaces get them as a matter of course. Here the idea was to work from a non-type-designer’s point of view and keep the imperfections, so a few letters come out slightly odd, and they were meant to.
The client was Hedvig, a digital insurance company, and Alexander Örn and Tor Weibull worked with Hedvig’s in-house designers to fit the brand line “Stuff happens”, meaning you take life’s mishaps without fear. The family has 2 fonts. Hedvig Letters Serif handles the punchy copy, and this Sans is the workhorse.
1 Regular, 414 characters, with case sensitive forms, fractions, sub and superscripts and 1 stylistic set. We would happily use it for app screens and product copy. A neutral sans it is not, so don’t pick it if you want the type to vanish.
