Look at where the strokes stop in Hind Guntur. Most of them end flat, cut off straight across or straight down and seldom on a slant, and those clean ends leave crisp gaps between neighboring letters. That was the point. The Indian Type Foundry built the family for user interfaces, where text is small and the space between characters does a lot of the work.
The construction is humanist, the strokes look close to even in thickness, and the apertures and counters are kept open. Manushi Parikh and Hitesh Malaviya are credited with the design.
It belongs to Hind, the foundry’s open source multi-script project, and this Telugu member is named after Guntur, a city where the language is used. 5 weights from Light to Bold, Telugu with Latin in each file, and Google has listed it since January 2016.
For a Telugu news site: Regular for paragraphs, Semi Bold for headings, and the Light only at display sizes.
