Cast on before the kettle boils
The 24 in the name is a stitch count. Capitals in this font are 24 stitches tall, and on a knitting machine that number, together with the weight of the yarn, decides how big the letters come out on the fabric.
Sarah Cadigan-Fried based the Jacquard fonts on a Victorian needlepoint alphabet Heinrich Kuehn designed in Berlin around 1880, expanding it in the process. The thinking behind them is that a knitting font is a pixel font where the pixel is a stitch. Machine knitting came first in the plan, but the letters work for hand knitting, needlework or bedazzling a jacket as well. If you knit them in Fair Isle, mind the floats behind the long runs of color.
