Knitters are the audience. The Soft Type Collection, Sarah Cadigan-Fried’s project, exists so they can plan lettering and patterns stitch by stitch, and Yarndings is the part of it given over to motifs, Fair Isle and Nordic patterns blended with the spirit of 1990s dingbat fonts.
The 20 is a measurement, the cap height counted in stitches, and some faces in the set come at several scales so the type fits a small project or a large one. Each face also has a Charted twin, here Yarndings 20 Charted.
It holds 93 characters in a single style with no OpenType features, and Google Fonts added it in January 2024. Type the alphabet first and see which ornament sits on which key.
