Karla started small. Jonny Pinhorn’s grotesque sans came to Google Fonts in 2012, and in its later life it was expanded into a variable family with a weight axis running from Extra Light to Extra Bold, and its language support grew to cover Western and Central Europe, the South-East included.

The 14 styles here are the static cuts of that range, 7 romans and 7 italics. The italics are noticeably narrower than the uprights, which helps them read as a different voice in a sentence.

For a portfolio site or a small studio’s paperwork it is easy to live with. Karla has both old style and tabular figures, so a price list and a paragraph of prose can each get the numbers they want.
