Kavivanar M. A. Azeez was a Tamil poet and educator who lived on the east coast of Sri Lanka from 1948 to 2002. The slanted Tamil letters of this font come from one of his manuscripts, and the font carries his name.
Tharique Azeez, who leads the project, kept the incline that Tamil handwriting commonly has, made the strokes fairly heavy and gave them the stress of a calligraphy pen. A Latin alphabet comes in the same files, with contextual alternates switched on through OpenType.
In a block of text the pen stress makes a rhythm you notice, which is why the designer thought it would work for body text as well as display. We would go with a short poem or an epigraph at the head of a chapter, set a size larger than plain text, and stop there. 1 Regular, 435 characters.
