A local park being redeveloped was the starting point. Dale Sattler, a New Zealand type designer working under the Noponies name, wanted to see whether the thinking behind that redevelopment could be carried into letters, and the brief he arrived at was openness: a tall x-height, an a with an open counter, rounded bowls, and stems that barely change thickness.
Why does that matter on a page? Mostly because the letters stay clear when they get small, and the family gives you enough weights to use it for both a sign and the paragraph under it. There are 5 of them, Extra Light, Light, Regular, Semi Bold and Bold, each with an italic. No Medium.
The italics hardly change the width of a line, so you can switch a phrase into italic without the paragraph reflowing much. Tabular and proportional figures are both in there, and so are fractions, ordinals and superscripts.
We would keep the Extra Light above 30 px.
