Libre Caslon was drawn from the Caslon that hand lettering artists produced for 1950s advertising, where nearly every other digital Caslon revives the 18th-century specimens of William Caslon I and II.
Pablo Impallari, working with Rodrigo Fuenzalida, split it in 2, Libre Caslon Display for headlines and this Text family for body copy on the web, tuned around 16 px and meant to stay readable well below that. In early 2020 it was upgraded to a variable font.
The lowercase is generous for a Caslon, so it sets large and open, and an article in it covers more line than you might plan for.
3 styles here, Regular, Italic and Bold, with no bold italic. Old style figures sit beside tabular ones, and discretionary ligatures are there if you want them.
For a long read we would set it at 17 or 18 px and give the headings to Libre Caslon Display.
