Yanghee Ryu took neat handwriting in pencil as the model for Gowun Batang, and the Hangul keeps a little of that tidy, personal hand inside what is otherwise a serif text face. Korean readers get the idea from the name. Gowun means neat and delicate, and Batang is the usual style name for serif Hangul text type.

2 weights, Regular and Bold. That covers a novel or an essay collection with bold headings, and nothing more: there is no light cut for a big display line and no heavy cut for a poster.

More than 12,000 glyphs carry the Korean syllables along with Latin and Vietnamese, and the figures come in tabular and proportional forms for tables and for running text. Google Fonts added it in June 2021.

How would we set it? Long Korean reading at body size, on paper or an e-reader, with a sans doing the menus and captions around it.
