Saturday sock hop at the diner
A connected script has a problem in type. A lettering artist can redraw the join between any 2 letters until it looks right, but a font has to use the same letter every time, and the joins suffer. Impallari Type’s answer in Lobster was to behave like the lettering artist: draw several versions of each letter and a large set of letter pairs, and let OpenType pick the best one for each spot in a word.
That happens on its own in any browser or app with ligatures turned on, so you get the swaps without doing anything. 828 characters carry all those alternates, and Cyrillic and Vietnamese come with them.
It is 1 weight and a lot of personality. We’d keep it to a name, a sign or a label, 1 or 2 words big, and pair it with a plain sans for everything else.
