Cocktails at the Palm Room
Broadway is the ancestor. Morris Fuller Benton drew it in 1927, American Type Founders released it in 1928, and Sol Hess of Lanston Monotype gave it a lowercase in 1929, a fat-face contrast laid over geometric shapes. Brian J. Bonislawsky of Astigmatic nodded to it and to the Art Deco years with Fascinate, but he made the lowercase bigger and the forms softer, so it comes across friendly where Broadway is glamorous.
For all its contrast it stays legible at small sizes, which is not something you expect from a Deco display face. It also runs wide.
Its partner is Fascinate Inline, a separate family added on the same day in December 2011 and meant for larger display sizes. Fascinate itself is the one to reach for when the type must shrink, on a menu or a ticket. The character set covers Latin-1, Latin-2, Turkish and Windows Baltic.
