Londrina Outline is the hollow member of a family of 4, and it does most of its work on top of another one. Marcelo Magalhães meant the main style, Londrina Solid, to be combined with the Outline, Shadow and Sketch versions, so you can stack a solid word in one color and lay the outline over it in another for a printed, slightly off-register look.
The project started on the streets of São Paulo. Magalhães first drew an all-caps lettering he called “New Folk” for a poster, saw in it the informal writing his city uses every day, and built it out into a family with lowercase. The letters are narrow, good for packing a long title across a poster. Below headline size the thin outline gets lost, so keep it big.
