Cadson Demak put a warning in its own notes on Mitr. Some of the Thai letters come out very close to each other, ก ถ ภ ฤ ฦ for one group, ฎ and ฏ, บ and ป, ข and ช, and in a very short text a reader can mistake one for another. It is rare for a foundry to say that about its own face, and it is good advice to keep in mind before setting a 2 word logo.
Mitr is a loopless Thai, the informal kind, and with its rounded terminals and wide, open structure it borrows from organic and humanist sans designs. The foundry also paid close attention to the size and placement of vowel and tone marks, since they decide how even a line of Thai looks.
The name is the Thai word for friend. Thanarat Vachiruckul drew it at Cadson Demak, and there are 6 weights, Extra Light to Bold, with Latin and Vietnamese alongside.
Cards for a celebration, a magazine spread, a poster, these are the places it was meant for. We would put it on a menu board too.
