Mukta Mahee is the Gurmukhi branch of Mukta, drawn by Shuchita Grover and Noopur Datye. The parent project at Ek Type, the Mumbai type collective, aims at 1 family covering every Indian script, with no single script’s look allowed to dominate; Mukta is its open release, and Girish Dalvi and Yashodeep Gholap designed the original.

The idea pays off on a page that mixes scripts. Set Gurmukhi in Mahee next to Devanagari, Gujarati or Tamil from the same family, and the weights and the humanist, monolinear tone should line up, which is exactly what a government form or a multilingual app needs.

7 upright weights run from Extra Light to Extra Bold. The Latin side is well stocked, with small caps, old style and tabular figures, discretionary ligatures and 3 stylistic sets, 564 characters per style.
