Square proportions with the corners rounded: that is the look of Aldrich, and Matthew Desmond tied it to the gothic styles of the early 20th century. The strokes keep 1 weight from start to finish, and the letters stand broad and solid. Desmond describes its roots as Midwestern work ethic, a plain hardworking face.
Width is what you notice in a paragraph. Aldrich runs about 15% wider than Arial, so it fills a headline generously and will not fit much body copy on a line.
Desmond runs MADType, a small studio, and his Abel reached Google Fonts 2 weeks before Aldrich. 1 Regular weight, Latin only.
