Pongal greetings from all of us
Tamil letters tend to be tall ovals, and Meera Inimai builds everything on that. Even its Latin alphabet was drawn from the same vertical ellipse, so English words sit in a Tamil paragraph without a jolt in texture.
Anilan N. G. designed it, with Hussain K. H. advising on typography and A. K. M. Kutty on the language, and Santhosh Thottingal compiled the OpenType shaping. The project belongs to Swathanthra Malayalam Computing, a free software community in Kerala, and Google added the font in June 2016.
Its intended job is plain reading. The makers suggest thinking of it the way you would think of a Latin grotesque sans, a body face for screens first, then for the text of a printed pamphlet or a 1 page flyer. There is a single Regular weight, so headings will have to stand out through size.
