The 3 in 42dot Sans has a flat top, and the 6 and the 9 run their tails out as straight diagonals, which gives a row of numbers a ruled, mechanical look. Switch on ss01 and the 3 gets its round top back while the 6 and 9 curl in the usual way. For a timetable or a scoreboard we would keep the angular default and add tabular figures, so the columns line up.
42dot made the face as its own corporate type. Its own account pairs straight lines, which stand for the technology, with soft curves meant to read as friendly. The counters got a squarish cut too, a sign of structure in the company’s eyes.
The character set goes well past a logo face. Each of the 5 weights, Light 300, Regular, Medium 500, Bold 700 and Extra Bold 800, carries 12,180 characters, and nearly all of them are Korean: the 11,172 modern Hangul syllables plus the jamo, so any Korean word can be set. Fullwidth Latin, circled and bracketed numbers, box-drawing pieces and vertical forms for Korean set top to bottom come along with them. The Latin alphabet is plain A to Z with no accented letters. English beside Korean is fine; a French menu would run short.
