At the court of the king Krishnadevaraya there were 8 poets known as the Astadiggajalu, the 8 legends, and Ramabhadra was 1 of them. This font carries his name, and it was made for the loud end of Telugu typography, headlines and posters and anything set large.
The Telugu is Purushoth Kumar Guttula’s work from 2013, released through Silicon Andhra. The letters are very round and keep the same thickness all the way around the stroke, and where a stroke ends it finishes in a small temple shaped tip, a little flourish, though from a distance the face still reads as a sans serif. Several of the conjunct letters are drawn as their own forms.
The Latin has a different author. It comes from Steve Matteson at Monotype, first published as Arimo, which is why the English in a bilingual poster will look calmer than the Telugu next to it. Appaji Ambarisha Darbha, a type designer in Hyderabad, led the project, and Google added it in December 2014.
It has 1 Regular weight. Give it a festival banner or a shop sign and let it be large.
