Footnote 12, see appendix

The sans half of Eben Sorkin’s Merriweather project was matched to the serif in weights and styles, so the 2 can share a page without a quarrel. Sorkin gave it low contrast, a large x-height, slightly condensed letters, open forms and a mild diagonal stress, all aimed at comfortable reading at very small sizes. It still feels traditional, for all its screen-minded shapes.

A January 2016 revision improved rendering at text sizes and added OpenType features. The list now has small caps, old style and tabular figures, a slashed zero and fractions, which is generous for a text sans.

This download is the Regular, recompiled by Rahul Gajjar. Captions, footnotes and app labels are the places to put it to work.
