Breaking news crawls were 1 of the jobs Indian Type Foundry had in mind for Teko, along with advertising: headlines and other display text on screen. Manushi Parikh designed it for Devanagari and Latin and ITF published it in 2014, though the Regular on this page carries only the Latin letters. Rahul Gajjar later re-engineered the font.

The shapes are square, low in contrast and plain in build, and they pack very tight; a lowercase sentence needs about a third less room than it would in Arial.

ITF’s advice for the full family was to use the middle weights for long headlines and save the Bold for a word or 2. This page has the Regular, 1 of the long-headline weights. In 2023 Marc Foley turned the Google version into a variable font.

We would use it on a scoreboard or a ticker, anywhere a lot of letters have to fit into a thin strip.
