Notes on the Avesta, chapter 3

Avestan was written in Iran from the 5th to the 13th century CE and was developed during the Sassanid era, for the Eastern Iranian language of the same name. It may well have been in everyday use, but all that survives is religious writing, the texts known as the Avesta. The alphabet runs right to left and is generous with sounds: 37 consonants and 16 vowels.

Monotype’s design team made the font, an even-stroked sans, as part of Google’s Noto collection. It has 1 Regular style with a Latin set, which is about what a scholar quoting a line of the Avesta in a paper would need.
