The Lao script has a looped form and a more modern, loopless one, and Noto Sans Lao follows the loopless one. Google describes it as mainly for headlines, packaging and advertising.

About 7 million people use Lao. The script has been written since the 14th century, comes from Khmer, and besides Lao itself it writes Isan and Thai. It needs complex text shaping.

What Noto adds is range: 9 weights, Thin through Black, with a Latin set alongside. A Black weight for a billboard and a Light for a caption on the same box is the obvious way to use it.
