Many of the scripts used across South and Southeast Asia today grew out of Brahmi. In its own time, from the 3rd century BCE to the 5th century CE, it wrote Prakrit, Sanskrit, Saka, Tamil, Kannada and Tocharian, left to right, as an abugida.
Noto Sans Brahmi sets the 117 characters of the Brahmi Unicode block in an unmodulated sans. Monotype’s designers made it for the Noto project, and it reached Google Fonts in November 2020.

Who uses it? Epigraphers transcribing inscriptions, mostly, and scholars writing about early India. It needs software with complex text layout support to display properly.
