Which Lao are you setting? The script has a traditional style with loops on the letters and a plainer loopless one, and this Noto family takes the looped side, which Google’s description considers fit for all texts, long reading included.

Lao grew out of Khmer and has been written in Laos since the 14th century. About 7 million people use it, it also serves Isan and Thai, and Google lists Lao, Khmu and Mong Njua among the languages here.

Mark Frömberg and Ben Mitchell drew it at The Fontpad, and it reached Google Fonts in September 2022, later than most of the Noto set. 9 weights, Thin to Black, with contextual alternates and 3 stylistic sets.
