Dosis began as a single style, the Extra Light, and its makers were frank that it was only good at 36 points and up. Edgar Tolentino and Pablo Impallari drew it as a rounded sans with an Extended Latin set full of alternate characters, and in September 2011 it grew into a complete run of weights.
The rounding is the first thing you see, terminals softened to a semicircle, on letters that are on the narrow side, so a headline packs in more than you would expect. The weights do not all behave alike. The designers call the light end minimal and the bold end the one with more personality, and that matches what we see: Extra Light is cool and almost clinical, Extra Bold is chubby and friendly.
In 2019 the family was remastered as a variable font, with Marc Foley, Eli Heuer and CrystalType working alongside the original team, and Igino Marini is credited as a designer too. Impallari works from Rosario in Argentina.
There are 7 weights, Extra Light at 200 to Extra Bold at 800, with 5 stylistic sets for the alternates and full Vietnamese. Body text is possible in Regular or Medium, but we think Dosis is happiest in a title.
