About 50,000 people use Lepcha, also called Róng, an abugida that came out of Tibetan writing and has been in use since the 18th century in India, Nepal and Bhutan. It writes the Lepcha language, which belongs to the Tibeto-Burman family.

Google’s Noto collection covers it with an even, unmodulated sans, 141 glyphs for the 82 characters in the Unicode Lepcha block. The script is written left to right and still needs complex text shaping, so check that your app supports it before you build a worksheet.

Monotype’s design team drew it, and the files have been on Google Fonts since November 2020, with Latin and its extended accents included for the English in a bilingual text.
