Mysuru is a city in Karnataka, and Hind Mysuru is the Kannada branch of a much bigger plan. Indian Type Foundry’s Hind Multi-Script project gives 9 writing systems used in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka matching families, from Bengali and Devanagari through to Tamil and Sinhala, so a product that has to work in several of them can keep a single look.
Manushi Parikh designed this one for user interfaces, and ITF first published it in 2015. Like the rest of Hind it pairs a humanist build with strokes that look monolinear and end flat. In Kannada that even stroke makes the letters feel fresh and modern, and the 444 Kannada glyphs include the conjuncts the language needs. The Latin is Adobe Latin 3, enough for English and Western Europe, scaled to sit level with the Kannada.
5 weights, Light to Bold. For a Bengaluru transit app we’d start with Regular for body text and Semi Bold for labels.
