Letters for a new primer

Cusmaan Yuusuf Keenadiid created an alphabet for Somali, and between 1922 and 1973 it was used now and then, until Latin replaced it almost entirely in 1973. It also goes by Far Soomaali and Farta Cismaanya; Unicode calls it Osmanya. It reads left to right.

Monotype’s design team drew this unmodulated version for Noto, and it came to Google Fonts in November 2020 with a Latin alphabet in the same file.

1 Regular, kerning and localized forms. Language resources and histories of Somali writing are its natural home, and if a heading needs a bold, borrow it from Noto Sans.
