Written in Baybayin

Only 30 characters make up the Tagalog side of this font, all from Unicode’s Tagalog block. The script goes by Baybayin or Alibata as well, an abugida written left to right that was used in the Philippines from the 13th to the 18th century for the Tagalog language. Tagalog itself, now spoken by about 21 million people, is written in the Latin alphabet today.

The Monotype design team drew this unmodulated sans for Google’s Noto collection, with Latin letters in the same file, 1 Regular weight. For a heritage project or a class on Philippine history that wants Baybayin set cleanly next to English, it gives you a neutral starting point.
