Outfit started as a logo. Outfit.io, a company that automates brand design, had a wordmark full of ligatures, and the type family grew out of it so that everything the company wrote would match its product marks without anyone having to think about it. Rodrigo Fuenzalida drew it, Smartsheet is credited with him, and Google added the fonts in September 2021.

It is a geometric sans, round where it can be. The ligature habit survived from the wordmark: there are discretionary ligatures alongside the standard set, and stylistic alternates plus 1 stylistic set to change the look of a few letters. A 2023 update widened the language support.

9 weights from Thin to Black and no italics, which is the real gap if you want it for long text. Brand work suits it better, a deck or an app’s headings in Semi Bold, with tabular figures on for any numbers.
