From the palace archive in Gowa

Old Makassarese was written on Sulawesi between the 17th and 19th centuries for the Makassarese language, and then Lontara, the Buginese script, took its place. What is left is a historical script of 27 characters in the Unicode block, and Sérgio Martins drew all of them for Noto in a serif design, with a Latin set beside it.

The audience is narrow: historians, linguists, anyone setting a catalog entry or an edition of an old text. It needs software with complex shaping support. There is 1 Regular style.
