Heinrich Jost drew a heavy slab serif for display work in the 1930s, and Bevan is Vernon Adams’s reworking of it for the web. Adams digitized Jost’s letters and then reshaped them, opening up the counters a little and adjusting the stems so the face would hold up as a bold display font in a browser. Google listed it in February 2011.

For years it had no italic. That arrived from the Summer of Type program in 2016, drawn with help from Kalapi Gajjar-Bordawekar and Jacques Le Bailly, and was added to the family in December 2021. The 2 styles take the same width on a line, so a headline can switch to italic halfway without reflowing.

What you have, then, is 2 styles at a single heavy weight, wide and solid, with Vietnamese and a few useful extras like tabular figures and a stylistic set. Is it a text face? No. Put it on a poster or a book cover at 40 px and over, with a narrower face for whatever follows.
