Notes From The Reading Room
The reading room opens onto a quiet courtyard. Along the shelves, small handwritten labels mark the collections. A visitor leaves a book open beside the window, keeping a place for the next reader.
A heading marks the next chapter. The margins leave room for a note while the text continues across the page.

Once upon a winter, long ago
The opening words of a fairy tale, set in small caps after a big initial, are where this font belongs. Almendra SC is the small capital member of Ana Sanfelippo’s Almendra family: type in lowercase and you get capitals at a reduced height, carrying the same broken, pen-made strokes she took from chancery and gothic writing.
Sanfelippo drew Almendra with children’s books in mind, so the SC cut has a natural job beside the Regular in a picture book or a collection of tales, for a character’s name or a shouted word. It is a small file, 1 style with basic Western European accents and no OpenType extras, and it was released in 2011.
