Nunito Sans is the plain-ended half of a pair. Vernon Adams drew Nunito first, a sans with rounded terminals meant for display, and Jacques Le Bailly later carried it to a full range of weights and made this version with ordinary, unrounded ends.
In February 2023 the family was rebuilt as a variable font with 4 axes, one of them an unusual control for ascender height, next to optical size, width and weight. Cyrillic came in at the same time, along with wider language support, and Google’s listing now also credits Manvel Shmavonyan and Alexei Vanyashin.
The files here are static: 8 weights from Extra Light up to Black, each paired with an italic that keeps the roman’s widths almost letter for letter. You give up the axes and keep a deep family.
Inside the 939 characters are old style figures, fractions, contextual alternates, discretionary ligatures and 2 stylistic sets.
For a web app our default would be Regular at 16 px for body and Semi Bold for buttons. Extra Light needs big sizes and strong contrast behind it.
