Pathway Gothic One was a narrow grotesque, a style with a long and well-used history. Eduardo Tunni took it and pulled it out into a full family, then rebuilt the whole thing as a variable font, and the result is Pathway Extreme.
The name earns itself in the range. The download carries 18 static styles, Thin at 100 to Black at 900, every weight with an italic, and in running lowercase the italics keep the width of their romans, so switching a word to italic barely moves the rest of the line.
The OpenType side is generous for a grotesque.
- Old style and lining figures, each proportional or tabular, plus a stylistic set, contextual alternates, discretionary ligatures and sub- and superscripts.
That figure choice is what we would use it for. Tabular lining numbers in a results table, old style numbers in a paragraph of running text, the same family doing both. Vietnamese is covered as well.
It reached Google Fonts in February 2023. Start with the Thin and the Black side by side on a page and you will see the spread in 1 glance.
