The stacked accents are where Be Vietnam Pro earns its name. Vietnamese piles 2 marks onto some vowels, ẫ and ậ and ự among them, and the marks get very little room to share. Lâm Bảo, Tony Le and ViệtAnh Nguyễn of Yellow Type Foundry drew adaptive forms for those diacritics, so they change shape to fit, and tuned the Vietnamese letters for reading.
Underneath sits a neo grotesk, plain and a little wide, aimed at the tech companies and startups its makers had in mind.
9 weights, Thin to Black, each with an italic that keeps almost exactly the width of its roman. Google added the family in June 2021.
It has no Cyrillic and no Greek, so a product going beyond Latin scripts will need a partner face. For a Vietnamese app or news site, 1 family can carry everything from the 900 headline down to the 300 caption.
