The gaps in a stencil letter make it harder to tell which letter it is. Eben Sorkin’s fix for that in Plaster was to space the letters further apart than similar fonts do, so that each one reads as a separate shape again. The effect on length is large. A line of Plaster runs about 54% longer than the same line in Arial, and you should plan the layout around that.
The design follows the geometric lettering of Albers, very low in contrast and extremely geometric, but Sorkin went his own way on many of the individual glyphs.
1 style, meant for medium to large sizes. A poster for a design exhibition or the name on an architecture studio’s door would suit it; a paragraph would not.
