Type an underscore in Playwrite AR Guides and you get a stretch of empty writing lines, exactly 1 word space wide. That small trick is the most useful thing in the font for a teacher. A row of underscores becomes a blank practice line on a worksheet, and the letters typed before it show the child what to copy.

Every other character carries its guidelines with it: the baseline, the x-height, and the lines for ascenders and descenders, printed right under the letter. They are there to help young children see the proportions of each letter and draw it with some confidence.

The handwriting itself is the Argentine model from Playwrite Argentina, the main family, which this single Regular weight is designed to match. Argentine primary schools treat writing mostly as a matter of comprehension and composition, but children still learn a joined, upright cursive. They start with print capitals in the initial level, move to print lowercase in first grade, and take up cursive in first or second grade.

TypeTogether’s Veronika Burian and José Scaglione drew it, and Google Fonts added it in November 2024. Remember to keep contextual alternates switched on, or the letters will not join.
