Thursday afternoon
Dear Alex,
I left the book by the window. There is a note on page twenty-three that I thought you would like. Bring it along on Thursday; we can finish the conversation over coffee.
See you there.

Moja mama peče kruh
From second grade on, Croatian pupils must write in rukopisno pismo, a continuous, fully joined cursive. First grade is spent on print letters, matching them with sounds and spotting them inside words; the joined hand comes after.
The push to standardize this began with Ministry of Education research projects in 2007. Out of them came the Bežen and Reberski handbook on handwriting, the reference for teachers since 2013.
This font is the guided companion to Playwrite Hrvatska Lijeva, which shows up in menus as Playwrite HR Lijeva. Each letter comes with its own ruling at baseline, x-height, ascender and descender, and the underscore draws the lines without a letter, a word space wide, for blank practice rows. Veronika Burian and José Scaglione made it at TypeTogether for the Playwrite school fonts, which come out of the Primarium project’s survey of school handwriting. 1 Regular weight. Switch on contextual alternates in Word or the joins will not appear.
