Only 1 letter in Playwrite HU starts with a curved entry stroke at the x-height, and it is the r. Small things like that are what separate 1 country’s school handwriting from the next, and TypeTogether’s Playwrite project exists to record them.
Hungary’s case is roundabout. The 2020 National Core Curriculum talks about getting children ready to write, but it names no handwriting model. The official teacher’s manual, the Tanítói Kézikönyv, points instead to workbooks from the Oktatási Hivatal, the Educational Authority, and the most used of those, the Írás Munkafüzet and Betűbarangoló series, were designed by László Kajtár. Children there learn print and cursive together from first grade, and the cursive is upright, wide and round, with loops.
Veronika Burian and José Scaglione followed that model. The result is a vertical, continuous cursive that takes some cues from the German Sütterlin hand: short ascenders and descenders, some looped, a rounded and unhurried construction, and capitals with a little decoration on them. The f gets 1 loop on its ascender and joins the next letter from its crossbar.
4 weights, Thin to Regular, and a Guides version with ruled lines for practice.
For a Hungarian worksheet it is the obvious pick. Elsewhere, its upright roundness reads friendlier than a slanted script, if you want a handwritten note that does not look rushed.
