Sniglet has been on Google since December 2010, which puts it among the earliest families in the library. It came by way of The League of Moveable Type, a group that called itself the first open-source type foundry and got going at the start of 2009, the moment browsers learned to load web fonts.
Haley Fiege drew it in 2008, and only in Extra Bold, round fat letters for headlines. 5 years later Brenda Gallo and Pablo Impallari added a whole Regular weight, 42 new glyphs and proper kerning. Fiege’s other Google family is League Script.
The Regular is the more useful of the 2 for subheads, while the Extra Bold is the original personality. Both cover enough accents for French or Icelandic.
