Bonjour Monde ran Syne Regular through DataFace, a tool of their own, which turned on-curve points into off-curve ones and the other way round, and they kept what came out. That is Syne Mono, a monospace whose outlines went where the software sent them, on purpose, as an exercise in letting go of control.
The wider family goes back to 2017 and a commission from Synesthésie, a Saint-Denis art space fond of putting unlike artists together, and the main Syne explores strange combinations of weight and style. Lucas Descroix was the designer, and Arman Mohtadji helped.
1 Regular style, with old style and tabular figures and 3 stylistic sets. We would not write code in it. An exhibition poster, a zine cover, the menu on a gallery website.
