Fira Mono started out with the Mozilla Foundation and Telefonica. Carrois Apostrophe drew the Fira family to fit the character of Firefox OS and to stay legible on handsets whose screens and rendering varied a great deal.

The Mono is the coding member. Fira Sans came in 4 weights with italics; the Mono has 3, Regular, Medium and Bold, and no italics at all.

For code the details are in place. A slashed zero keeps 0 and O apart in a config file, the figures are tabular, and contextual alternates are switched on. Its letters run about 9% wider than Consolas, so an 80 column line asks for a little more screen. Medium is the weight we would try first on a dark editor theme.

On Google Fonts since June 2014, it covers Greek and Cyrillic along with the extended Latin.
