Courier New is the font Cousine was built to stand in for without anyone noticing. Steve Matteson drew every character to Courier New’s width, so a document or a code listing set in Courier does not reflow at all when it lands on a machine that has Cousine instead. Portable documents across platforms, for developers, was the brief.

The letters are a sans serif, drawn to read better on screen.

4 styles, Regular and Bold with their italics, and the italics hold the same fixed width as the uprights. 2,274 characters cover the pan-European WGL set and go on into Hebrew and Vietnamese, so a Hebrew string in a code sample stays in the same family as the code around it.

Google has offered it since November 2010. We would give it terminals and code samples at 13 px, with the Bold kept for keywords.
