In the setup the Monaspace README gives for VS Code, Krypton is the font for text you did not type. Code you wrote stays in Neon, and the inline suggestions that appear ahead of the cursor come up in Krypton, so you can tell at a glance which characters are yours. That works because all 5 Monaspace families share the same metrics. A Krypton suggestion lines up with the Neon code around it, column for column.
The project site files Krypton as the mechanical sans. It is also the 1 member left out of the cv10 character variant: Neon, Argon, Xenon and Radon offer alternate forms of l and i there, and Krypton keeps the ones it was drawn with.
Lettermatic made the family for GitHub Next, which started the project in 2022. Krypton shares the family’s texture healing, run through contextual alternates, and its 10 stylistic sets of coding ligatures from ss01 to ss10. 2,459 characters take in Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Vietnamese and the IPA letters.
On this page are the static normal-width files, Extra Light 200 to Extra Bold 800 with italics. Upstream also ships variable fonts, wider cuts, and since version 1.2 builds patched with Nerd Font icons for terminal prompts.
Would we write in it all day? Probably not, it has a colder, more engineered feel than Neon for long sessions. As the second voice in an editor, it earns its place.
