A panel of low-vision and legally blind developers looked at Intel One Mono at every stage of its design and said what worked for them and what did not. That is the backbone of the project. Frere-Jones Type drew the family in partnership with the Intel Brand Team and the agency VMLY&R, and the goal they set was a monospace that cuts down on eyestrain and fatigue for developers who are underserved by most coding fonts, and with it the number of coding errors.
What came out
Each character gets a generous cell. Set a block of code in it next to Consolas and the lines run close to 12% longer, room the letters can use to stay distinct. The download here holds 5 weights, Light, Regular, Medium, Semi Bold and Bold, all with italics that keep exactly the same character width, which matters in an editor where columns must stay aligned.
There are 5 stylistic sets and a stock of alternates to tune individual letters, and the Latin coverage reaches over 200 languages, Vietnamese included, across 793 characters.
We count this among the more considered free choices for anyone who reads code all day, and doubly so if your eyes are tired or not what they were. Intel publishes the editable sources too. It joined Google Fonts in 2025.
