Comic Sans in a code editor was a joke long before it was a file you could install. Shannon Miwa made Comic Shanns, a monospaced take for terminals, and Comic Mono is a fork of its first version, by a software developer whose README owns up to having no font creation skills.

The work itself is a Python script. It forces every glyph to exactly the same width with code based on monospacifier, borrows the metrics of Cousine so the font sits better beside system fonts, renames the result, and produces the Bold by running FontForge’s Embolden over the Regular. Nobody drew that Bold, it was computed.

The character set stops at basic ASCII plus curly quotes and dashes, and there are no OpenType features. No accents either. The README also names later forks of the idea, Serious Shanns and Comic Shanns Mono.

Would we write a whole project in it? For a week, maybe. On a projector in a classroom it reads friendlier than most code fonts do, and that is a fair reason to keep it around.

Names, values and punctuation share a fixed rhythm. Compare the zero with the capital O, and the number one with the lowercase l.
