A slashed zero is normal in a coding font. Old style figures are not, and Chivo Mono has both, along with lining, tabular and proportional numbers. That mix says something about it: this is a monospace that came out of a text family, Omnibus-Type’s Chivo, and it brought the text face’s habits along.

Chivo itself goes back to 2011, when Héctor Gatti released it with Igino Marini as the first neo-grotesque from the Buenos Aires collective. The Mono arrived on Google Fonts in November 2022, as 2 variable files, upright and italic, running from Thin to Black. Every weight has its italic, so there are 18 styles to unpack from this download.

Where would we use it? Code blocks on a site already set in Chivo, obviously. It would also do well for the figures in a table or a price list, where the fixed width keeps every column straight and the grotesque shapes keep it from looking like a terminal. Latin coverage includes Vietnamese.
