The TC version of 霞鶩文楷, LXGW WenKai in English, started from the characters of Klee One, a Fontworks design, and turned them toward Traditional Chinese and toward the older forms of the characters.

The route there was a little roundabout. LXGW first used AFDKO and a set of legacy glyph shapes from the Zonz community to convert the characters in Klee One into old forms, then patched them into the earlier WenKai and fixed components and whole characters by hand. After that came a second pass, guided by the Inherited Glyph Standardization Documents from Yidianzifang, which changed most of the components again. The result is aimed at Traditional Chinese readers and at people who care about inherited glyph forms.

The Mono part

In this cut the Latin letters are set on a fixed width, which makes it usable for code comments and anything else where Chinese and ASCII share a line and the columns should stay lined up. Its Latin sets narrower than a typical coding mono, so lines of English stay compact next to the square Chinese characters.

There are 3 weights, Light, Regular and Bold, and the coverage reaches well past Chinese: 22,421 characters including Bopomofo, Japanese kana, Greek, Cyrillic, Vietnamese and even Lisu. It joined Google Fonts in May 2024.
