Notes from a houseboat on the Thames
The name comes from Alexander Trocchi, the Scottish novelist. The shapes come from further back, from the slab serifs linked to the English typecutter Vincent Figgins (1766 to 1844), and Vernon Adams named his references: Nebiolo’s Egiziano and Caslon & Co’s Antique No.4 and Ionic No.2.
Adams loosened them, and Trocchi ended up a more casual slab than its 19th-century ancestors, with heavy square serifs and a relaxed gait. He meant it for text as well as display.
It sets wide, so a headline will fill out a column without much effort. 1 style. On Google Fonts since April 2012. We’d use it for a magazine feature headline with a short intro paragraph under it in the same face.
